Privacy expert Daniel Michaluk joins BLG!

I am absolutely delighted that Dan Michaluk is joining BLG’s Privacy & Data Protection team!

Dan is a well known privacy expert based in Toronto. His practice includes acting for management in information security, cyber security, data management, and privacy and freedom of information matters. He advises organizations respond optimally to security and cyber incidents, defend security and privacy complaints, claims and grievances and handle complex freedom of information matters.

The breadth and depth of our team’s expertise are tremendously enhanced as Dan brings a new and complementary expertise, including education and public sectors as well as valuable litigation perspective: He represented clients in landmark privacy, security and freedom of information cases, including litigation at the Ontario Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada. For instance, he has represented a legal publisher in two “right to be forgotten” brought by individuals challenging the publisher’s right to publish case law based on privacy grounds; on two occasions, he has successfully defended grievances on behalf of universities whose unions challenged the outsourcing of e-mail systems to the cloud and successfully represented an intervenor at the Supreme Court of Canada in the leading workplace privacy case – R v Cole.

Dan is ranked as a privacy expert by a number of legal directories (Best Lawyers, Chambers Canada, Who’s Who Legal, Lexpert) and is a sought-after presenter and a prolific author: I have been following Dan’s excellent blog All About Information for a number of years.

A warm welcome to our new partner, we look forward to working with you!
