IAPP-EY Annual Privacy Governance Report 2016

IAPP and EY recently published their Annual Privacy Governance Report for 2016 which discusses recent privacy trends. This Report is the result of data provided by 600 privacy professionals across the globe, some of them from Canada. On the regulatory front, the Report notes that businesses are getting ready for the European Union’s new General Data Protection Regulation (entering in force in May 2018), and discusses the challenges brought by the invalidation of the Safe Harbor framework and the entry into force of the new Privacy Shield. The Report confirms that more than half the organizations surveyed expect their privacy budgets to grow next year.

The Report also mentions that 72 percent of the organizations surveyed report that privacy is now a board-level concern and more than 50 percent of privacy leaders are within two rungs of the CEO position. It also notes that privacy tasks and responsibilities are spreading steadily throughout organizational functions and initiatives. For the first time, 50 percent of respondents reported that privacy is involved throughout ongoing company operations and more than two-thirds are now regularly using privacy impact assessments (PIAs).

If you wish to compare this 2016 Report with the one from 2015, last year’s Report is available here.
