The Province of Quebec was the first Canadian jurisdiction to pass a private-sector privacy law, An Act Respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector (the “Privacy Act” ) in 1993, however, it is generally the least known and understood of all such private-sector laws. This paper peels back the layers and sheds some additional light on the unique requirements of this law.
